Dundee United to consider offers for Shankland

Dundee United sporting director Tony Asghar has admitted the club will consider offers for star striker Lawrence Shankland.

QPR have been linked with the Scotland international, who helped United win promotion back to the top flight.

He scored 28 goals in 33 games in his first season at Tannadice and made his Scotland debut, scoring in a 6-0 thrashing of San Marino.

“If bids come in, we’ll have to look at them,” Asghar told BBC Scotland.

“[We’ll assess] the situation financially, whether it’s going to help the club long term. [It is] strange times, but ultimately we definitely want to hold on to him.

“Lawrence has two years left on his contract and I know he is really happy where he is. He is looking forward to playing for us in the Premiership.

“It will be interesting how the market is going to play. Everyone says there will be no transfer signings; I don’t see that. Clubs are always going to try to enhance their squad and sign players.”

Several clubs have been monitoring Shankland and QPR are known to have shown an interest.

Rangers director of football Les Ferdinand watched the player earlier this year, although no offer was made by the west London club.
