Contract offer could end Birmingham City hopes of landing keeper

QPR are ready to offer goalkeeper Seny Dieng a new contract in order to see off interest from the likes of Birmingham City.

Dieng, 25, has impressed during a season on loan at Doncaster, having previously done well on loan at Dundee and Stevenage.

Birmingham are among several clubs to have been linked with the Swiss stopper – Glasgow Rangers were reported to be interested in him during his time in Scotland.

Dieng has a year remaining on his contract at QPR, who signed him in 2016 after he left Grasshoppers.

But West London Sport reports that Dieng is set to be offered a new deal at Loftus Road along with defenders Osman Kakay and Conor Masterson.

Kayay has been with the R’s since the age of eight and impressed during a run of games towards the end of the season.

Young centre-back Masterson also impressed after being called upon, although QPR boss Mark Warburton is keen to bring in more experienced options this summer.

Warburton told West London Sport: “Young guys have had to step up like young Conor, who at the start of the season I felt needed to go out on loan.

“You need to learn the ugly side of football, the demand for points and so on.

“He stepped up against Leeds, Swansea and Brentford and will be hoping to keep his shirt. I’ve never got a problem with that. There’s also young Joe Gubbins.

“But we need some physicality and some experience as well.”
