There are conflicting reports over whether Adel Taarabt is in line for a return to QPR.
Taarabt, the star of Rangers’ promotion-winning side of 2011, has been tipped to rejoin his former club.
He has been out of favour at Benfica for some time and The Sun have reported that he is in line for a return to Loftus Road.
According to The Sun, QPR boss Steve McClaren wants to sign the Moroccan, who joined the R’s from Tottenham on loan in 2010 and later made the move permanent.
However, West London Sport have suggested the move is a non-starter, pointing out that QPR are under a transfer embargo as part of the club’s Financial Fair Play settlement.
West London Sport reports that Rangers can make signings in some circumstances, such as if they sell a player, but they cannot pay agents’ fees or make loan signings.
That would suggest that a move back is highly unlikely for Taarabt.
It has also been suggested that Taarabt’s attitude off the pitch means McClaren is highly unlikely to want him.
Taarabt remains a popular figure among R’s fans who fondly remember his magical performances in helping the club reach the Premier League under Neil Warnock.
