Bircham in the frame for QPR manager’s job as Sherwood stalls

Marc Bircham is reportedly closing in on the QPR manager’s job as Tim Sherwood stalls.

West London Sport recently reported that Bircham has been interviewed for the position along with several others but that Sherwood is director of football Les Ferdinand’s first choice for the job, with Michael Appleton and Mark Warburton in the frame should Sherwood turn it down.

Meanwhile, Football.London say Rui Almeida, manager of French second-tier side Troyes, is in the running, while bookmakers recently slashed the odds on former Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal taking over at Loftus Road.

But Talksport reports that Bircham impressed at his interview and is very much in contention to take over, with Sherwood having reservations about the direction of the club.

Ferdinand and QPR technical director Chris Ramsey both worked with Sherwood at Tottenham.

Sherwood has since had a spell as Aston Villa boss and has been out of the game since a spell at Swindon Town.

Bircham is a popular figure among fans, having made more than 150 league appearances for the club during his time as a player and subsequently coached at Rangers and been assistant manager.

He was Ian Holloway’s right-hand man but left shortly after Holloway was replaced with McClaren last summer.
