Austin’s comments will give fans hope he will stay at QPR

Charlie Austin says there are talks to try to agree a deal for him to stay at QPR.

The striker returned to Rangers in January for a second spell at Loftus Road, where he is a huge favourite among fans.

And those fans will be encouraged by Austin’s comments to the club website following the end of his time on loan from West Brom.

He said: “At the moment the talks are ongoing. There are talks. It’s not like there’s nothing – there is talks going on with the football club.

“As much as it’s in my hands it’s in the football club’s hands as well. That’s all I can really say.

“Everybody knows how I and my family feel about the football club. But it’s what direction myself and the club want to go in. Hopefully we can meet and who knows what will happen.”

Austin not returning would mean Rangers fans will have missed out on the chance to see him live during his second spell at the club.

“These last five months the football club have gave me the love and the fire back to enjoy football again,” he said.

“I just wish the fans were here and that would have been superb because what we’ve managed to do in the second half of the season wouldn’t be the same without having everyone here.

“As much as it’s been good, I think that’s the final piece that we’ve missed.”
