Van Basten: Ziyech would be a good signing for United

Netherlands legend Marco van Basten has advised Erik ten Hag to sign Chelsea playmaker Hakim Ziyech for Manchester United.

Ajax boss Ten Hag is taking over at Old Trafford this summer and United are expected to bolster their squad after another disappointing season.

Ziyech is well known to him, having previously been at Ajax, and former striker Van Basten believes the Morocco international would be a good signing.

Speaking on Ziggo Sport’s ‘Rondo’ show, on which Ten Hag featured as a guest, Van Basten said: “What comes to my mind now is that I think Ziyech who already plays in England could be a very good footballer at Manchester United for Erik.”

There has been speculation over Ziyech’s future for some time as he has struggled for fitness and form since his arrival at Stamford Bridge. Some reports have suggested that he could leave this summer along with a host of other Chelsea players.

Those include Marcos Alonso and club captain Cesar Azpilicueta, who are being strongly linked with moves to Barcelona.

The Catalan giants are already set to sign Andreas Christensen and it appears that they could be bringing in no fewer than three Blues players this summer.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano says Alonso is “set to leave” the Bridge and that Barca have offered Azpilicueta a two-year deal.
