Former Liverpool man reportedly in running for Crystal Palace manager’s job

Former Liverpool man Mauricio Pellegrino is a contender for the Crystal Palace manager’s job, according to The Sun.

Palace are said to have contacted Pellegrino, who resigned as boss of Spanish side Alaves on Monday and would welcome a return to England.

The Eagles are looking for a new manager following the recent resignation of Sam Allardyce. The likes of Roy Hodgson have also been linked with the job.

Pellegrino, 45, had a short spell at Liverpool as a player and returned to the club as assistant boss under Rafael Benitez. He spent two years in that role and later also worked as Benitez’s assistant at Inter Milan.

Pellegrino, who guided Alaves to a ninth-placed finish in La Liga, is a friend of fellow Argentine Mauricio Pochettino.

Pellegrino told The Sun: “What we achieved at Alaves was incredible but now it’s time for a new challenge.

“I would love to manage in England. The Premier League is the most exciting in the world.

“I loved my two seasons as a coach at Liverpool and playing for them for half a season, too.

“Mauricio did a great job by going to England with Southampton and he has done unbelievably well with Tottenham.

“He has hopefully given Argentine managers a good reputation!”
