Fulham keen to sign striker Nugent

Fulham want to sign Middlesbrough striker David Nugent during this month’s transfer window, West London Sport reports.

Leeds United are also interested in Nugent and both permanent and loan deals are being discussed.

The 31-year-old is surplus to requirements at Boro, who have just completed the signing of striker Rudy Gestede from Aston Villa for a fee of between £6m and £7m, and the former England international is expected to leave the Riverside Stadium.

Nugent scored eight goals in 40 games in all competitions last season as Boro were promoted to the Premier League, but has only made four brief  appearances in the top flight this term.

He was a regular goalscorer at Championship level during spells at Leicester City, Portsmouth and Preston North End, netting 89 times in six seasons, and also played in the fourth tier with Bury and the Premier League with Burnley.

Fulham are keen to sign another striker, with the on-loan Chris Martin wanting to return to parent club Derby County. They are also after a winger, a midfielder and a centre-back.

Leeds’ Chris Wood has 13 goals in 24 league games this season but his contribution dwarves that of team-mates Marcus Antonsson and Souleymane Doukara, leaving boss Garry Monk wanting to bolster his strike force.
