Tuchel: Change of system has helped Werner

Thomas Tuchel believes a change of system could prove to be a turning point in Timo Werner’s Chelsea career.

The German striker has found English football tough since his arrival but has impressed since his recent recall to the side.

And Blues boss Tuchel is hoping there will be no looking back for Werner now he is flourishing alongside Kai Havertz and Mason Mount in attack.

Werner was excellent during Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final triumph against Crystal Palace, setting up a goal for Mount and generally causing the Eagles defence problems with his movement.

Speaking at his post-match press conference at Wembley, Tuchel said: “We had a bit of a change in formation up front so he played against Southampton alongside Kai, with Mason and Kova around him.

“Maybe this was the turnaround point for him. He scored and had big chances and was decisive in Madrid and could have been the hero with the third goal but unfortunately not.

“He was involved, he scored and created chances and spaces and did that again today.

“It was very hard to find spaces against Crystal Palace and hard to be decisive but he assisted the second goal.”

Chelsea will return to Wembley to face Liverpool in the final on 14 May.
