Manchester City’s pursuit of Harry Kane has been complicated by them facing Tottenham on the opening day of the Premier League season, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The newspaper reports that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy does not want to agree a deal that would see Kane line up against them at the start of the campaign.
Chelsea and Manchester United are also reportedly keen on the England captain, with United forward Anthony Martial linked with a possible move to Spurs.
The Athletic suggest the Frenchman could be offered to Spurs in part-exchange for Kane, who has indicated that he wants to move on in order to win major trophies and play Champions League football.
But Levy has warned that Tottenham will not be prepared to let Kane leave for less than the asking price.
Levy recently told Spurs’ website: “I am never going to talk about any specific player in public. All I will say is his frustrations in not winning are shared by me and all the fans and players. We all want to win.”
Levy was speaking as the appointment of new director of football Fabio Paratici was confirmed.
He said: “One of the items that Fabio will have to deal with when he comes in is which players are going to be retained, which will be asked to look for other clubs.
“There is a market out there. What we want and what other clubs want is not always possible to achieve. We will do whatever is right for the club.”
