Frank Lampard was impressed with Michy Batshuayi’s performance for Chelsea’s Under-23 side against Liverpool this week.
The out-of-favour striker scored twice in the front of the watching Lampard at Stamford Bridge, where Antonio Rudiger returned to action after his knee injury.
Boss Lampard has overlooked Batshuayi so far this season but the Belgian looked sharp and took his goals well.
“I thought it was a good performance in that Michy got the fitness work he needed out of the game,” Lampard said at a press conference on Friday.
“He scored two good goals – two very good finishes. I thought he worked hard and that’s exactly what the game was there for. So, very good for him.
“In terms of the performance of the team, I thought it was really good. There were some outstanding performances from some of the young players and that’s really good to see.”
Lampard also reiterated that Batshuayi would not be leaving the club this summer despite speculation over his future.
Reports have suggested that Batshuyi could move before the European transfer window closes on September 2.
But with Chelsea under a transfer ban, Lampard has no intention of letting him go.
“We need Michy. We need the competition up front with the strikers we have,” Lampard said.
