Hasselbaink criticises Ziyech after Chelsea draw

Former Chelsea striker and QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was highly critical of winger Hakim Ziyech for failing to take a great chance in the 0-0 draw against Manchester United.

Ziyech had the Blues’ standout opportunity in a game of few chances, but although he got a great connection with his first-time strike from Ben Chilwell’s left-wing cross, the effort was brilliantly saved by keeper David de Gea.

But Burton Albion manager Hasselbaink, who was covering the match as a pundit for Sky Sports, was in no doubt that the winger should have scored.

“Ziyech needs to score,” said Hasselbaink, who scored 88 goals in 177 appearances for the Blues. “It’s on his left foot. It’s his strong foot; he sees all of the goal and he needs to score.

“I think Chelsea tried to win the match. They tried not to concede but they did try to win.

“It was made difficult by Man Utd; they had eleven behind the ball all the time. They condensed all the space. Man Utd played more not to lose than Chelsea. They played more on the counter-attack.”

The draw sees Chelsea stay in fifth place in the Premier League table, but they move to within a point of fourth-placed West Ham United, who lost 2-1 to leaders Manchester City on Saturday.
