Chelsea ‘willing to sell Kante’

There is again speculation that Chelsea could sell N’Golo Kante.

This time it comes from Spanish transfer-gossip outlet Fichajes, which claims that Chelsea are willing to sell the 30-year-old midfielder and that Real Madrid are among clubs interested in him.

It is claimed that the Blues are ready to consider a sale because of Kante’s age, the fact he could still command a hefty transfer fee, and because Chelsea have two promising midfielders emerging in Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour.

However, it is the case that these type of reports have circulated before and that Chelsea have shown no desire to sell the Frenchman despite it being claimed that he could be allowed to leave.

Frank Lampard consistently insisted that reports Kante could go were inaccurate and his successor as Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has also spoken in glowing terms about the player and his important role.

Just recently, this was underlined when Tuchel brought Kante on as a half-time substitute at Tottenham and he helped turn the game in his team’s favour after a difficult first half.

Tuchel said at his post-match press conference: “We allowed too many chances, had easy-ball losses, not enough ball possession and every 50-50 duel was going against us.

“This had to change and if you have N’Golo on the bench and you want to step up these patterns of the game then it’s the best player to bring because he’s unique and he can change any momentum.

“If you have N’Golo you have something that everybody is looking for. You have everything you need in midfield; work-rate, intensity, ball wins, skilful play with the ball and without the ball.

“I see this every day in training and it’s hard to believe how good he is. He’s a unique guy. He’s fantastic.”
