Chelsea star refusing to hold contract talks

Antonio Rudiger has reportedly told Chelsea he is not interested in discussing a new contact until after this summer’s European Championships.

The Germany international has 15 months remaining on his current deal at Stamford Bridge and there has been speculation about his future.

He was widely tipped to leave the club – and nearly did – after being frozen out by former boss Frank Lampard.

But Rudiger was recalled to the side by Lampard’s successor Thomas Tuchel and has been in good form.

Chelsea are said to therefore be keen for him to sign a contract extension.

But The Athletic reports that Rudiger would rather not address the issue of his club future until after his involvement for his country at the Euros.

Tuchel, meanwhile, has been reluctant to comment on the futures of defenders Rudiger, Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen.

Speaking at a recent press conference, Tuchel said: “Of course we know – everybody knows – about the situation of those three players. All three players perform on a super-high level, very reliable, and this is the most important thing.

“We’ll take the decisions and then communicate them when they are taken. This is not a secret and it’s obvious that all three have been outstanding.

“Andreas and Toni have done a fantastic job and we have to keep on going like this and the rest will be resolved.”
