Tammy Abraham is poised to sign a new extended contract with Chelsea.

The 21-year-old striker, who signed a five-year deal in 2017, returned to the Blues in the summer after three loan spells and scored his first goal for the club in the 3-2 win over Norwich on Saturday.

It was the first victory in four attempts for new boss Frank Lampard, with Abraham’s classy double strike repaying his manager’s faith.

Lampard said Abraham would thrive from the confidence of his performance against Norwich, adding he was a “goalscorer who is hungry for goals” and “constantly wanting to score”.”I saw that in the Championship last season,”

Lampard added at his post-match press conference: “He’s proven that and now it’s his time to prove it at Chelsea.”

Abraham was handed the number nine shirt and started the first game of the season against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

He hit the post early on in the 4-0 loss, but did not start either of the following two matches.

However, the England Under-21 international came on against Liverpool in the Super Cup, where he missed the crucial penalty in the shootout, and also came on in the home league draw with Leicester.

But he was restored to the starting line-up against the Canaries at Carrow Road, opening the scoring inside four minutes and racing to celebrate his strike with Lampard before ensuring victory by hitting a second-half winner.

Abraham scored 26 goals on loan with Championship side Bristol City in 2016-17 and grabbed eight goals in 21 starts while with Swansea City in the Premier League the following campaign.

He returned to the second tier last season, scoring another 26 goals as Aston Villa won promotion via the play-offs.
