Chelsea ‘need to sell’ after busy transfer window

Chelsea are being widely tipped to offload players before the transfer window closes on Tuesday night.

It has been a busy – and expensive – window for the Blues, with new owner Todd Boehly determined to bolster the squad.

But that leaves several players on the fringes and the club needing to balance the books by getting some off the wage bill.

There has been interest in the likes of Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Hakim Ziyech and it seems likely that some of the squad will be shipped out, either on loan or permanently.

Everton are among clubs keen on midfielder Gallagher, who will slip down the pecking order if Chelsea are able to complete a deal to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.

But the England international midfielder has several clubs chasing him, including Crystal Palace, where he was on loan last season, and Newcastle.

Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth is in no doubt that there will be outgoings in the final stages of the transfer window.

“Chelsea have brought in a lot of players this month and they need to let players go before the deadline closes,” Sheth said.

“It might depend on what happens with Fernandez. If he comes in, Gallagher may decide there is even more competition for places and it is best to leave for regular football.

“This is something that we have to look out for in the next few hours and tomorrow – players have to leave Chelsea.

“Lots of other interest in players like Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Hakim Ziyech. I think Chelsea’s squad at the moment is something like 32 players. They need to sell and at least loan out a few of them.”
