Jenas hails Mount after Chelsea victory

Jermaine Jenas singled out Mason Mount for special praise after Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Sheffield United on Sunday.

Midfielder Mount, playing further forward in a false number nine position, scored a fine opening goal with a low, left-foot strike from Timo Werner’s pull-back.

And although the Blades equalised through Antonio Rudiger’s diabolical own goal, Jorginho’s second penalty winner in two games saw Thomas Tuchel’s side earn a third consecutive victory.

Mount, a regular under Frank Lampard, has started all three of the wins, but he was left on the bench for the first game – a 0-0 draw with Wolves.

The England midfielder impressed former Tottenham man Jenas with his versatility and quality at Bramall Lane.

“Credit to him,” Jenas said on Match of the Day 2. “He didn’t start the first game but Tuchel has obviously seen something in training that has got him into the team.

“He drifts in very well and gets in the right positions at the right time and is always giving himself a yard of space to watch as the play develops.

“His finish was not easy. He makes it look simple, stroking it into the corner with his weaker foot. It was the finish of a goalscorer.”
