England player ratings: how the London contingent fared against Hungary

England lost 1-0 in the Nations League match in Budapest.

England lost 1-0 to Hungary in their Nations League match in Budapest. Here’s how we rated each of the London contingent.

Declan Rice: 6

Did a solid job in midfield against a determined Hungary side. The West Ham man was comfortable in the first half but less so in the second as the hosts moved up a gear.

Mason Mount: 6

The Chelsea man played just over an hour. He found the going quite tough on the left-hand side and seemed frustrated at times, but he worked hard off the ball and was also involved in some nice link-up play.

Jarrod Bowen: 7

A very decent debut for the West Ham forward, who made a bright start and had an early shot blocked after combining nicely with Harry Kane. Did fade from the game somewhat before snatching at a chance by volleying straight at the keeper after being found by Harry Maguire’s ball over the top.

Harry Kane: 6

Worked hard off the ball and linked up well with Bowen, but the Tottenham striker didn’t pose much of a goal threat before a late strike just wide of the near post.

Bukayo Saka: 7

The Arsenal youngster made an instant impact after his second-half introduction, gliding down the left and seeing his shot saved. Was unable to maintain that momentum though.

Reece James: 5

A forgettable day for Chelsea’s James, who conceded a penalty by fouling Zsolt Nagy shortly after coming on as a second-half substitute. Later served up a fine delivery from the right which was headed wide by Conor Coady.
