No decision on future yet, says Silva

Fulham manager Marco Silva has insisted he has not made a definitive decision regarding his future at Craven Cottage.

The 48-year-old Portuguese head coach is out of contract at the end of June and continues to be heavily linked with summer vacancies across Europe, including a potential return to his homeland with Benfica.

The stalemate at Wolves at the weekend all but mathematically extinguished Fulham’s lingering hopes of securing European football for next season, leaving them three points behind eighth-placed local rivals Brentford with just one match remaining and a vastly inferior goal difference.

Speaking after the match, Silva made it clear that he will not rush into a declaration before holding critical analytical meetings with the club’s board next week.

“I have not decided,” Silva said. “I understand the fans want to know the future of the club. Myself and the club cannot communicate something when the decision is not made.

“I said I’m going to meet with the board, we are going to analyse, we are going to say some important things which will be crucial to the club’s future in the way I want the club to move. And after that, the decision is going to be made.”

Silva, who has grown increasingly ambitious regarding the club’s ceiling, stressed that the hierarchy cannot afford to stand still in the Premier League and must approach the upcoming transfer window with significant intent.

“I think it has to be a big summer at this football club because we have many things to analyse: why, in certain moments, we have not been able to make that step forward that we should, and many things to address,” Silva added. “After that, we take the best decisions.”

The Cottagers will wrap up their campaign next weekend at Craven Cottage against Newcastle United, amid growing tension over whether it will mark the manager’s final match in the dugout.
