Fraizer Campbell, Mathieu Flamini and Jordon Mutch featured for Crystal Palace’s development side against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday afternoon.
Palace’s second string were beaten 2-0 in their first match of the season at Selhurst Park, where the visitors hit the woodwork three times.
The opening goal came on 25 minutes, when Jack Boyle scored from the penalty spot after Rekeil Pyke had gone down in the box.
And Huddersfield were two up by half-time after Sam Warde was able to capitalise on a mix-up in the Palace defence.
Palace had a decent spell early in the second half and Campbell missed a great chance for them before Mutch had a long-range effort saved.
Midfielder Mutch had also gone close early on when he fired into the side netting.
But Huddersfield were the better team and finished the game strongly, going close to scoring a third on a number of occasions.
Regan Booty fired against the post and then went close with another effort which flashed narrowly wide.
The woodwork was rattled twice more before the end, with Boyle and Warde both shooting against the crossbar.
Palace’s Under-23 side are next in action on Monday afternoon when they are away to Millwall.
