Frank: Watkins is happy at Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has insisted he has no concerns about the possibility of Ollie Watkins attracting interest in January.

Watkins enhanced his growing reputation by scoring twice in a 3-1 win at QPR on Monday night.

Crystal Palace tried to buy him during the summer and have been tipped to make another attempt to land Watkins when the transfer window opens in January.

Southampton have also been linked with Watkins, whose brace in the west London derby took his goal tally for the season to 10.

But Frank gave a simple response when asked after the game if he feared losing Watkins.

“No. Why? He is enjoying it here,” said Frank, whose team have won three matches in a row.

Watkins, who signed a new contract at Griffin Park after Palace were unable to agree a deal to sign him, has been outstanding since being deployed as an out-and-out striker following the departure of Neal Maupay to Brighton.

“I can only praise him for his work ethic – look how hard he works throughout the game,” Frank said at his post-match press conference.

“That’s a massive, big thing for us. We were pressing high constantly in the second half – chasing everything and keep on pushing up. His focus is on developing and wanting to get better.”
