Three Chelsea exits imminent as Tuchel trims squad

Timo Werner and Marcos Alonso are on the way out of Chelsea and Callum Hudson-Odoi looks set to leave on loan.

All three players are not in boss Thomas Tuchel’s plans and are heading elsewhere in order to play first-team football.

Trimming the squad will also pave the way for Tuchel to add more new faces at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel confirmed at his post-match press conference that Alonso asked to be left out of the squad against Everton as he is set to leave. Barcelona are keen on the 31-year-old.

“That is the case. He tries to leave and we agreed to this switch, and that’s why it would have never made sense to have him on the pitch today. It’s the right thing to do,” Tuchel explained.

Meanwhile, Werner is closing in on a return to RB Leipzig just two years after he moved to Chelsea from the Bundesliga club.

He has scored 23 goals in 89 appearances for the club, having arrived in England on the back of a fantastic final season with Leipzig when he plundered 34 goals and helped the side reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time in their history.

However, under Tuchel he found his chances limited to largely substitute appearances.

He is set to return to Leipzig either on loan or on a permanent deal but with a buy-back clause.

With the World Cup taking place in November and Chelsea signing Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, Werner has expressed a desire to move on.

And Borussia Dortmund are discussing a loan move for Hudson-Odoi.

Hudson-Odoi has made it clear he wants first-team football, while Chelsea have indicated they will let him go elsewhere.

German outfit Dortmund have a long-standing interest in Hudson-Odoi and now have an opportunity to snap him up.

There is also interest from Juventus and a number of English clubs.

He is under contract until 2024, having signed a five-year deal after being pursued by Bayern Munich in 2019.

Hudson-Odoi initially wanted to join Bayern but committed his future to Chelsea after being given a run in the side.

Now he is out of the first-team picture again, he has told the club he wants to move.
