Liverpool are “ready” to end their long wait to win the title, according to Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.

The Blues beat Jurgen Klopp’s side in the Carabao Cup this week and face them again in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

And Sarri believes the Merseyside club are good enough to prove themselves as the country’s top team.

Sarri said: “They are a top-level team. They have worked with the same coach for four seasons. I think they are ready now to win the Premier League.”

Asked if he is surprised a club of Liverpool’s stature have gone 28 years without being champions, the Italian said: “Yes. It’s very strange. But the important thing is that they are ready.”

Speaking at a press conference on Friday afternoon, Sarri was also full of praise for Klopp, whose side have won admirers for their brand of attacking football.

“He is one of the best of course – one of the best coaches in the world at the moment,” Sarri said.

“He has worked very well in the last season with his players and, as I said, now I think they are ready to win – to win maybe the Premier League, maybe the Champions League, but they are ready to win something important.”
