Sarri hails Hudson-Odoi but gives less positive verdict on Ampadu

Maurizio Sarri has insisted that Callum Hudson-Odoi will not be leaving Chelsea.

Bayern Munich want the teenage winger but he has been told he will not be sold ahead of this week’s transfer deadline – and probably not in the summer either.

Head coach Sarri is delighted with the progress of Hudson-Odoi, who scored in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Sarri declared: “I think he will be the future of our club and the future of English football.

“On the pitch he’s doing very well. I’m really very happy with him.

“The club told me he’s out of the market for sure and probably he will be out of the market in July.”

However, fellow Blues youngster Ethan Ampadu did not fare so well against Wednesday.

Ampadu, who has impressed at centre-back, found the going tough in midfield – underlining why Sarri is keen for Chelsea to sign a replacement for Cesc Fabregas.

Sarri said: “I thought for us it was important to have two players. One (Gonzalo Higuain) has arrived. I am waiting for the other.

“If he will arrive, I will be very happy, otherwise I have to work with these players. It’s not a big problem for me.

“Ampadu didn’t play very well in that position. He is very young, it’s a new position, and it’s not easy to play there in our team.”
