Rudiger set to become one of world’s highest-paid defenders

Antonio Rudiger will reportedly become one of the highest paid defenders in the world if he leaves Chelsea this summer.

Sportsmail say the German international could earn up to £400,000 a week if he leaves Chelsea as a free agent, with an exit looking “increasingly likely”.

And The Independent is reporting that Real Madrid are leading the way for his signature, with Rudiger’s brother and agent Sahr Senesie reportedly meeting with Madrid a few weeks ago where an informal agreement between the parties was reached.

Paris Saint Germain, Bayern Munich and Juventus are also said to be among the teams competing to sign the 28-year-old.

Chelsea are said to have offered Rudiger a new deal in the region of £140,000 and could yet make an improved offer to try and keep him at the club.

But those terms are reported to be “significantly less” than what is being offered elsewhere.

Rudiger currently earns around £100,000 per week but will “quadruple” his current wage if he leaves and will officially be allowed to speak to overseas clubs in January, SportsMail understands.

It would bring him to around the £400,000 a week including add-ons that Juventus and Netherlands defender Matthijs de Ligt currently earns.
