Roy Keane slates Chelsea duo – and explains where it went wrong against Man City

Roy Keane felt Chelsea paid the price for getting “comfortable” against Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side came from behind at the Etihad Stadium after N’Golo Kante had put the visitors ahead.

Chelsea were excellent for much of the first half and seemed to be in control after Kante’s opener.

And Keane, speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports, felt they paid the price for switching off.

The former Manchester United star said: “They got comfortable and I always say that’s a dangerous word to use when you’re up against a good team.

“You’re never comfortable, because in terms of losing possession on the halfway line, within 10 seconds the game changed at that moment because Chelsea never recovered.

“They had some decent possession after that, but I felt that after that big moment there was only going to be one winner. The top teams will punish you.”

Keane was also extremely critical of Emerson Palmieri and Mateo Kovacic for allowing Riyad Mahrez to cut in from the right and fire home what turned out to be the winner.

Keane said: “There’s two players – are they communicating?

“The one place he can’t come in is where he ends up. And these are two experienced players.

“Football’s about moments. Chelsea get two moments wrong in the game and they punished for them.”
