Reports: Lyon ready to sell Dembele to Chelsea

Moussa Dembele, Fulham

Lyon are ready to sell Moussa Dembele to Chelsea this summer, according to reports.

The former Fulham forward was linked with a return to west London during the January transfer window, when Chelsea reportedly had a bid for him rejected.

Lyon insisted they would not sell Dembele, but reports suggest that the French club could be willing to do business further down the line.

The Express have picked up on a story by 90min.com, which suggested that Lyon are open to a deal.

Could a deal happen?

Dembele is a quality player and his return to the Premier League at some stage seems inevitable.

He could certainly do a job for Chelsea, whose shortcomings in front of goal have frustrated boss Frank Lampard.

Lampard has made no secret of his desire to boost his attacking options after his side failed to take a host of chances in games this season.

However, reports linking Dembele with Chelsea should perhaps be treated with caution.

It was similarly reported in January that Chelsea were looking to sign him – only for Lampard to effectively suggest he wasn’t interested.

Speaking at a press conference at the time, Lampard said: “He’s a player I know and a player the club know.

“But I’m surprised to see his name pop up so regularly when it’s not popping up in my conversations so regularly, to be brutally honest, and there’s quite a few players in the last week that I could say the same about.

“It’s not one that we’re openly talking about and if there’s a decision I’ll be a big part of that decision.”
