Reports: Lampard could be sacked as Chelsea boss

There is speculation about Frank Lampard’s position as Chelsea manager in the wake of the 3-1 defeat at home to Manchester City.

It was the fourth loss in six matches for the Blues, who were brushed aside in the first half as rampant City scored three times and could have scored more.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich does not tend to give managers time and there are reports that Lampard is now on thin ice at Stamford Bridge.

The likes of The Athletic and the Daily Star are reporting that Lampard could now be close to the sack, with the club said to be looking at potential replacements.

Lampard was defiant after Sunday’s game, insisting his team have the character to turn their fortunes around.

He told Sky Sports: “We have, without a doubt, because we went 16 games unbeaten and a month ago everyone was asking me about where the team could go, where I could go, and where was the new contract. Now people will be saying the opposite. That’s football.

“When I look at the squad I know there is uplift in this team. But I know where we’re at because I see it.

“I know the work it takes to reach the level that Manchester City churned out today. That’s been a lot of years in the making.”
