Chelsea out-thought and outplayed Tottenham in their 2-0 win, according to Gary Neville.
The Blues coasted to victory over Jose Mourinho’s side, with Willian’s first-half double setting them on their way to an impressive win that helped them move on from a run of four defeats in five.
“It was absolutely wonderful from Chelsea from minute one,” ex-England and Manchester United defender Neville said on Sky Sports.
“I loved the performance. I thought it would be a tough day for Frank Lampard and that Jose Mourinho would smell blood with the run that they are on.
“I thought Jose fancied it. He looked confident before the game but that was a brilliant, brilliant day for Frank. Chelsea fans will be so proud.”
Neville said Chelsea, who go six points clear of Spurs and remain in fourth place, were spot on in switching to a 3:4:3 formation
“To see an English manager set up a team like that,” Neville added. “Tottenham were out-thought and outplayed. Chelsea did everything right. It was a really good day for English coaching, not just for Chelsea.
“Frank was up against one of the best managers in the world from the last 25 years and he really held his own and that is an important moment for him. He really did get it right.”
Neville’s fellow pundit Graeme Souness agreed, saying: “From start to finish they were fabulous. To a man they all did their job. Quicker on the ball, quicker thought.”
And Chelsea legend Ashley Cole said Chelsea’s stunning victory as much about desire as getting the tactics right.
“Chelsea got their gameplan right in terms of the system,” Cole said. “But it was about the work ethic and the guys’ understanding that it’s a London derby and Chelsea don’t want to lose to Tottenham.
“It was about attitude and desire. And they showed all of that.
“Frank will be ecstatic with the attitude and the application of the players. They worked very hard and deserved the win.”
