Liverpool still in the hunt for American star as reports of Chelsea deal are denied

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc says his club plan to keep Christian Pulisic in January.

Zorc was responding to reports that Chelsea are set to beat Liverpool to the signing of Pulisic and snap him up when the transfer window opens.

Sunday newspaper reports in the UK suggested that Chelsea were on course to agree a deal to sign him and that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was desperate for his club to launch a rival bid.

Former Dortmund boss Klopp is said to be a huge fan of the United States international, who has long been touted for a move to the Premier League.

But Zorc told German newspaper Kicker that Dortmund are looking to keep him until at least the summer, when he will have just a year remaining on his contract.

He said: “We have known these rumours for many years. We plan at least until the end of the season with him.”

The Guardian recently reported that Pulisic is open to a potential move to England.

“England, the Premier League, is a league where lots of kids dream of playing so there is no reason why maybe one day I won’t play here,” he said.

“As you can see, we are having a great year at Dortmund and I am enjoying every moment of that. Then when the time comes for me to talk in the breaks about my future, then that’s when those things happen.”
