Pulisic reveals why he didn’t take match ball after hat-trick

Christian Pulisic scored his first career hat-trick – and didn’t realise he was supposed to take the match ball.

Pulisic’s treble helped Chelsea to a 4-2 win at Burnley and his team-mates had to tell him that custom meant he should take the match ball.

Pulisic admitted afterwards he didn’t take the ball because he had no idea he was supposed to.

“That’s exactly why. Honestly, I didn’t even think about it. My team-mates reminded me, so I got it in the end,” he said.

Pulisic endured a difficult start following his arrival from Borussia Dortmund but has been outstanding of late.

He made a big impact after coming on as a substitute against Newcastle and Ajax and was superb from the start against Burnley.

Pulisic told Sky Sports “The first few months were definitely hard. I had a few starts early in the season and then I fell out of it and I was trying to get any minutes that I could and just make an impact.

“Gladly in the last two weeks I was able to show that again – I was helping the team coming in in the Newcastle game and I think they saw that and gave me a start today.

“I didn’t think it was going to happen right away, being a big success. Coming into a club like this takes time so I’m happy with the progress I’ve made so far and I’m just going to keep going from here.”
