Lampard gives big indication that Chelsea players will leave

Frank Lampard has given a clear indication that he is keen for players to leave Chelsea during this month’s transfer window.

Blues boss Lampard was asked at a press conference on Friday if he would like to make signings.

His response suggested he wants to but might first need to offload some on the fringes of his squad.

He said: “I’m not absolutely sure. I have ideas. We have a big squad.

“We’ll have to see if that changes – if there are opportunities for players that aren’t playing so much.

“That will be a conversation between player, club and myself. Then we’ll see whether we can strengthen in the right way.

“But we’re not jumping up and down to do so. My focus this year is purely on work, because we have young players. But we’ll see. It’s a long month.”

Marcos Alonso is certainly expected to leave, with reports in his native Spain suggesting he is set to join Atletico Madrid on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent move.

Alonso has been frozen out by Lampard, who has a surplus of left-backs with Ben Chilwell having been signed in the summer and Emerson Palmieri also in the squad.
