Frank Lampard gives answer to Chelsea fans who don’t want new signings

Chelsea’s transfer ban could be lifted in January – but many fans don’t want new signings.

The club’s appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport will be heard on 20 November and could lead to Chelsea’s transfer ban being lifted.

“I’ll be very interested, of course. But it is a legal matter and I don’t know enough of the legals to even delve,” Frank Lampard said when asked about the matter at a press conference.

“But of course I’m interested because it’s obviously going to affect potentially what we can do in January or not.”

Chelsea’s transfer ban has contributed to the club’s youngsters being given a chance under manager Lampard this season.

And with the likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori flying, it’s little wonder that some Blues fans are concerned that an influx of signings could spoil things.

There are other youngsters on the cusp of breaking through, such as Reece James and Billy Gilmour, and Lampard is well aware that not all supporters are keen to see him spend money on new recruits.

He said: “We’re on a good run, though, aren’t we? I get that and it’s a nice feeling.

“Of course some players have come in and shown with their opportunities they’ve been given that they can do roles and play well. We are getting results at the moment.

“I think as Chelsea we will always look to improve in windows if we can, if we’re allowed to and if the players we might look at are better or we feel are worth adding to the squad.

“But, at the minute, I’m very happy with what I’ve got so I suppose that’s why, hopefully, fans are as well.”
