Former Tottenham striker Jurgen Klinsmann has backed fellow German Timo Werner to make it in the Premier League.
Werner has scored eight goals for the Blues since arriving in the close season but has not scored in his past 12 club appearances.
Legendary German striker Klinsmann, who had two spells with Spurs in the 1990s, told BT Sport that Werner had “the grit and willingness to go through the pain and setbacks”.
He added: “If strikers do that they will make it and I tell you that Timo Werner will make it.
“He will go through some stages that the people will criticise because strikers are made that way.
“Strikers are measured in goals and if you don’t score goals for a couple of games people will throw stuff at you. That is part of life.
“But Timo Werner knows that. He will go through it and he will make it in the Premier League; I have no doubt about that.”
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has insisted that Werner and fellow German Kai Havertz will need time to adapt to the Premier League.
Speaking at his post-match press conference after Sunday’s home defeat against Manchester City, Lampard said: “Kai Havertz is young. Timo Werner is young. They’d never played in the Premier League.
“I’ve spoken a lot about players who have come to the Premier League at a young age and needed time to adapt – some of the great players that have been in this league.”
