Jamie Redknapp was critical of Chelsea’s players after their 1-0 defeat at Newcastle.
Issac Hayden scored an injury-time winner for the Magpies at St James’ Park, where the Blues dominated the game but could not find the net.
Former England midfielder Redknapp – cousin of Blues boss Frank Lampard – felt N’Golo Kante wasted a crucial chance to set up Tammy Abraham in the first half.
Redknapp also criticised the performances of Cesar Azpilicueta, Willian and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said; “They didn’t do enough. They had a couple of opportunities, shots from outside the box, Kante in the first half when he should have squared it to Tammy Abraham.
“It’s been a problem, certainly at home, when they’re playing against a team that sits back and makes it difficult for them.
“They’ve only won five of their 11 games at home, that tells you the story. They need to move the ball quicker.
“Having Azpilicueta as a left-back, I don’t think that helps, because he always wants to come back onto his right foot.
“I didn’t see enough from Willian. I didn’t see enough from Callum Hudson-Odoi when he got in good positions.
“Frank defended his players but I think he’ll be bitterly disappointed with that performance.”
Lampard made it clear after the game that he intends to add to his attacking options during this month’s transfer window.
“We know we have problems at the top end of the pitch and don’t get enough goals,” Lampard told Sky Sports.
“Scoring when around their goals solidly for massive parts of the game is something we need to address as a club. We are working on that on the pitch.
“But we need to be clinical. It’s a reality. I will always defend the players and am pleased with the players we have but we can’t work any more in training on finishing. We finish and we finish and sometimes you need that killer instinct in front of goal.
“In times we have had it, but we need to score more goals from frontline areas. I know where we need to strengthen but we’ll see.”
