Frank Lampard spoke to reporters on Tuesday ahead of Chelsea’s match against West Ham. The Blues boss was asked about a number of issues, including reports he is looking to sign Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes. Here are three things we learned….
Christian Pulisic and Andreas Christensen are doubts for the West Ham game
“Christian felt a bit of tightness in his calf in the game against Leicester. We are managing him and we haven’t got an answer yet. Andreas is in the squad but will have to see with another 24 hours.”
Lampard has no plans to use N’Golo Kante as just a defensive midfielder
“With N’Golo I wanted to have fluidity to us. He has capacity for high-intensity running. He has done it well and we can improve as a unit. It’s a different position from Makelele, with eras it changes. It is new for N’Golo, but he is an incredible player. He can do more than sit in midfield. He will be huge for this club for years to come. He is doing a really good job.”
Chelsea are NOT signing Gomes
Lampard insisted that Gomes had “never been mentioned at my end” as a potential signing.
That’s despite reports earlier in the day declaring that Chelsea were looking to snap up the midfielder.
Gomes has reportedly turned down a contract offer at United and is expected to leave Old Trafford.
