Antonio Conte believes Michy Batshuayi’s dramatic winner against Atletico Madrid was another sign of how much the Chelsea striker is improving.
Batshuayi, on as a substitute, scored with the last kick of the game to put his team top of their Champions League group.
The Belgian struggled to make an impact after his move to Stamford Bridge last year but ended last season in good form and has impressed in patches so far this term.
And Blues boss Conte declared: “Michy is a young player and last season he struggled a lot to understand the league, but he is improving and his commitment is very good.
“Don’t forget he scored against Qarabag and Nottingham Forest. I am very pleased for him.”
Conte felt his team deserved their 2-1 win for their attacking approach in Madrid, where they fought back after going a goal down against the run of play.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, the Italian said: “We came here wanting to play. Our answer was very positive. I’m pleased for my players – they deserved this.
“It was a good performance and we must be pleased with the spirit we showed. I am very happy and I think we deserved to win.”
