Andreas Christensen suffered a “simple” concussion in Chelsea’s 4-0 win at Brighton but will be fine to train on Sunday, boss Antonio Conte said.
The Danish defender clashed heads with Shane Duffy in the Blues’ penalty area and appeared to be given the all-clear to continue by Chelsea’s medical team, returning to the pitch.
However, referee Jonathan Moss went across to check on Christensen again and asked for a change to be made.
“He had a concussion,” Conte said.
“The player didn’t want to come off but at the same time when you have on the bench players like David Luiz it was simple for me, to tell him no. Also, the referee tried to force this substitution.
“It was a simple concussion. The player is okay. Tomorrow’s training session, he is ready.”
Conte also explained the absence of Danny Drinkwater, who has joined Thibaut Courtois, Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas on the injury list.
“He had a kick on his ankle in the game against Norwich,” Conte said.
“He is not so lucky this season. Danny is having many problems from the start of this season. I hope to have him recovered very quickly
