Chelsea v Southampton: Blues injury latest, Saints trio set to miss out

Olivier Giroud is expected to miss Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Southampton on Wednesday due to an ankle injury.

Alvaro Morata could start as the focal point of Chelsea’s attack, as injuries elsewhere mean Eden Hazard is likely to be asked to play in his preferred wide left role.

Cesc Fabregas (neck), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (back), Pedro (hamstring) and Callum Hudson-Odoi (hamstring) all missed Sunday’s win at Crystal Palace and could be absent once again.

Provisional squad: Kepa, Caballero, Rudiger, Alonso, Fabregas, Jorginho, Kante, Barkley, Hazard, Pedro, Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic, Zappacosta, Willian, Cahill, Christensen, Azpilicueta, Morata, Luiz, Emerson Palmieri, Ampadu.

Ryan Bertrand could miss out for Southampton against his former club.

The England full-back is working his way back to fitness but may not be ready in time for the Stamford Bridge trip.

Striker Michael Obafemi is expected to miss out again with a hamstring issue, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg starts a four-match suspension.

Provisional squad: McCarthy, Gunn, Forster, Soares, Yoshida, Stephens, Vestergaard, Hoedt, Bednarek, Ramsay, Valery, Targett, Davis, Romeu, Lemina, Ward-Prowse, Armstrong, Elyounoussi, Redmond, Gallagher, Long, Gabbiadini, Austin, Ings.
