Luiz set to sign new Chelsea contract

David Luiz has hinted that he is set to sign a new contract at Chelsea.

The Brazilian defender, who turns 32 next month, is coming towards the end of his current deal, which expires at the end of the season.

The club have a policy of only offering one-year contracts to players over the age of 30.

That seemingly put his future in serious doubt but Luiz, who is in his second spell at Stamford Bridge, has suggested that a compromise looks likely to be reached and he will be staying at the club.

“I think so. We are talking with the club,” Luiz told the Evening Standard.

“Everybody knows I love this club, I feel comfortable here and am happy here. I am doing my job very well so I think a lot is going to happen.

“I have the best job in the world so I have to be motivated every single day. I love football, if I didn’t love football I would not be playing anymore.”

Meanwhile, Gonzalo Higuain has not travelled with the Chelsea squad for the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie against Dynamo Kiev amid reports the striker has been struggling with illness.
