Chelsea are set to tell Frank Lampard he cannot select Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori against them in the Carabao Cup, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Blues legend Lampard took Chelsea youngsters Mount and Tomori on loan from his former club soon after being appointed as Derby County manager during the summer.
The pair have both impressed since joining the Rams on season-long deals, with midfielder Mount recently being called up to the England squad.
Chelsea have been drawn to face Derby in the fourth round and Lampard has since been waiting to hear whether the Blues will allow Mount and Tomori to play against them in the tie.
Competition rules state that loan players can play against their parent club if permission is granted.
But the Telegraph say Chelsea are expected to deny permission for the young duo to feature in the game.
Lampard is therefore set to have to make do with them on his return to Stamford Bridge on 31 October, when Chelsea’s all-time record goalscorer is sure to receive a hero’s welcome from the home fans.
