Chelsea news update: Havertz latest, Jorginho hits back at reports he’s leaving, Zouma wanted

Kai Havertz has reportedly asked to leave Bayer Leverkusen – potentially paving the way for a move to Chelsea.

Several reports have emerged suggesting the Germany winger has made it clear that he wants to move.

The story was broken by German newspaper Bild, which has reported that he held a meeting with club officials and told them he wanted to move on.

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United have also been linked with Havertz, but reports suggests Chelsea are favourites to sign him.

Jorginho responds to reports he is set to leave Chelsea

Jorginho has played down reports of a move and insisted he is focused on finishing the season well with Chelsea.

The Italy midfielder has been overlooked since the season resumed and, with N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic both out injured, he was only a substitute at Crystal Palace.

Billy Gilmour was given a starting place – fuelling speculation that Jorginho’s days at Stamford Bridge are numbered.

He has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus – but insists he has heard nothing concrete.

“There have been rumours but I haven’t heard anything,” Jorginho told Chelsea’s website.

“I am just focusing on finishing the season well with Chelsea and qualifying for the Champions League.

“I just have to stay focused on when the teams need me.”

Frank Lampard has insisted his decision not to start with Jorginho does not mean the player’s Chelsea future is in doubt.

Lampard praised Jorginho after the win at Palace, where the Italian was brought on to steady the ship as the visitors were coming under pressure.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Lampard said: “The two games Billy played before lockdown, against Liverpool – who are the best team in the world – and Everton, (he was) fantastic.

“He trains like that as well. So does Jorginho – they train really well.

“I’ve got to make difficult choices. It doesn’t mean anything about the future of Jorginho, Billy or anyone else.

“You saw the impact Jorginho had calming the team when he came on at the end. I know he can give us that.

Zouma praised – but could he be off to Spurs?

Lampard praised Kurt Zouma after Chelsea’s win at Crystal Palace – but there remains speculation over his future.

Reports have suggested that Zouma could be among players sold by Lampard this summer in order to make room for new signings.

He continues to be linked with a move to Tottenham, having previously played under Spurs’ former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

But Zouma has impressed since being recalled for the games against Palace and Watford.

He produced a vital late challenge in the 3-2 win at Selhurst Park as Chelsea were coming under sustained pressure late in the match.

Lampard said: “It was fantastic from Kurt and at Watford he played a really good game as well; imposing with his defending and good on the ball. That’s everything I want.

“Defenders might not always get the credit for those, but his was definitely a point-saving tackle at the end and saved us two points. I’m really pleased with him.”

Nevertheless, Zouma faces major competition for a place at Chelsea and the prospect of new signings coming in means he could well end up moving on.

The Daily Express reported on Wednesday that Spurs are “increasingly confident” of a deal for Zouma.

It is claimed that the north London club are looking to buy Zouma for £25m.
