Another Chelsea youngster being targeted by Nigeria

Ike Ugbo is reportedly the latest Chelsea youngster to be targeted by Nigeria.

The 21-year-old striker has been impressing on loan in Holland, where he has scored five goals in eight matches for Roda JC.

And the Daily Mail say Nigeria officials were at a game against Telstar on Friday night to watch Ugbo in action and are stepping up their interest in him.

It comes after Nigeria also pursued Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori, who were recently included in the England squad.

Striker Abraham has previously played for England but only in friendlies, meaning he remains eligible to play for Nigeria until he plays for England in a competitive fixture.

Tomori has represented Canada, the country of his birth, at Under-20 level and is also eligible to play for Nigeria, who very much wanted him to commit to them.

“It wasn’t England all the way,” Tomori told The Guardian. “I had certain people and certain things that I had to consider. I spoke to my family and people that I care about and that’s the decision I came to. So when England came calling, it was difficult to say no.

“England is obviously such a big nation, as well as Nigeria and Canada coming up, so I think I was going to be happy with whoever called me up, but it’s nice it is England.”
