Hasselbaink in the running for Charlton job

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is in the running to take over as Charlton manager.

Hasselbaink, recently sacked by QPR, is eager to make a quick return to management and is interested in the job at The Valley.

Troubled Charlton are again looking for a new manager after parting company with Russell Slade.

Slade lasted only six months in the job and is the sixth manager to leave the Addicks since March 2014.

He left with the club 15th in the League One table and with Slade having only presided over 16 league matches.

Former Chelsea striker Hasselbaink had a spell at Charlton towards the end of his playing career.

The Dutchman spent the 2006/07 season there, scoring just four goals in 29 matches before moving on to Cardiff.

He was at QPR for just 11 months before being shown the door following a series of poor results and performances.

Rangers fans were unhappy with his team’s style of play, as were the club’s owners who have reinstalled Ian Holloway for a second spell as manager at Loftus Road.

Hasselbaink previously enjoyed success at Burton Albion, overseeing their promotion to League One during a year in charge of the East Midlands side.
