Maupay left out of Bees squad as Sheffield United reportedly close in on deal

Neal Maupay was not included in Brentford’s squad for a pre-season friendly at AFC Wimbledon amid reports the striker could be set for a move to Sheffield United.

Reports suggest the promoted Blades are closing in on a £15m deal to sign the 22-year-old Frenchman, although West London Sport have reported that Brentford are demanding more than £20m for him.

Maupay scored 28 goals for the Bees last season and has also been linked with Aston Villa, who are managed by former Brentford boss Dean Smith.

Said Benrahma and Ezri Konsa, who have also been linked with moves this summer, were not included in the Bees squad for Friday’s fixture either.

Brentford have sold several players for big sums in recent years, including the likes of Scott Hogan, Andre Gray and Chris Mepham, and it looks likely that Maupay will this summer become another player to swap Griffin Park for the Premier League.
