Brentford reportedly increase Watkins asking price

Brentford are asking for a £28m fee for in-demand striker Ollie Watkins, according to reports.

Aston Villa are leading the chase for Watkins, with talks ongoing, but Crystal Palace are among a host of other Premier League sides interested in last season’s Championship Player of the Year.

Newly promoted Leeds United have also been linked with Watkins – Leeds Live have suggested the Yorkshire club are keen to snap him up.

The 24-year-old bagged 25 goals in 46 appearances last term, and became a prime transfer target after Brentford fell short of promotion to the top flight for the first time.

Crystal Palace previously tried to buy him, but the Bees are still holding out for more for their prize asset.
Watkins is well known to Villa manager Dean Smith who signed the striker during his time as Bees boss.

Head coach Thomas Frank has seen clubs circling around his top talents after their defeat to Fulham in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

West London Sport say West Ham look set to table a bid for star winger Said Benrahma, while Brighton are interested in left-back Rico Henry.

And while losing Watkins would be a significant loss for the west London club, attacking options have been strengthened after Ivan Toney’s arrival from Peterborough United, on Tuesday, for an initial £5 million fee.

Toney has scored 49 goals and 15 assists over the past two seasons.
