Arsene Wenger has insisted he is unfazed by Arsenal’s previous disappointing Novembers and that his players have a “good opportunity” to buck the trend.
Arsenal have picked up fewer points in November than any other month during Wenger’s long reign as Gunners boss.
And with his side second in the Premier League table, and having enjoyed a Champions League victory against Ludogorets Razgrad this week, he is keen for them to maintain their momentum in Sunday’s north London derby against rivals Tottenham.
Asked if Arsenal’s past November results gave him cause for concern, Wenger said: “No. It’s exciting – we have an opportunity to show that we are ready for a challenge like that and to do better than we have done historically.
“We have a good opportunity on Sunday to show that and we have already started November in a positive way.
“We want to show that this team can face history and have the potential as well to make history and show we can do better than we did before.”
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s match, Wenger also played down the significance of Tottenham being unbeaten in the league this season.
“I think it’s too early in the season for that,” he said.
“What is important is that we focus on the quality of ourselves and the quality of our performance.
“We know that we have done very well away from home and we know as well that the success of our season depends on how well we do at home.”
