Arsene Wenger has denied indicating to Ian Wright that he is ready to step down as Arsenal manager at the end of the season.
Former Gunners striker Wright suggested this week that Wenger gave him the impression that he was tired and coming to the end of his time at the helm.
However, Wenger has insisted that he did not speak to Wright privately and that his comments were made during a question-and-answer session at a function.
Speaking at his post-match press conference after Arsenal beat Hull 2-0, Wenger said: “It was questions and answers. I could be tired, because I get up early in the morning and I finish late at night. But I didn’t give any indication about my future.”
Wenger added that he believes Wright misinterpreted his comments.
“I appreciate very much that you want me to rest, absolutely. But I am not ready for that yet,” Wenger said.
Arsenal’s victory moved them up to third in the Premier League table and kept alive their hopes of catching leaders Chelsea.
The Blues, nine points clear at the top, are away to Burnley on Sunday.
“We have to fight no matter what the gap is – as much as we can and first to find some confidence back,” Wenger said.
“It was more about the mathematics than about the brilliance today, because we had absolutely to win.”
