Lucas Torreira will undergo a medical ahead of an expected move to Arsenal once his involvement in the World Cup is over, his father Ricardo has said.
The Gunners are keen to sign the Uruguay international from Sampdoria amid interest in him from several other European clubs.
Reports have suggested that a deal worth around £25m has been agreed for him to move to the Emirates Stadium.
Ricardo told Italian radio station CRC: “I want the best for my son and I also know that Arsenal showed a lot of interest in him.
“It’s not done, neither is it official, because he hasn’t signed anything, but there’s a great chance that Lucas’ future will be in England.
“There was no problem in the negotiations, and the latest is that as soon as the World Cup ends, he’ll go to London for a medical.”
Torreira has impressed for Uruguay, who face France in the World Cup quarter-finals on Friday.
He is among a number of potential signings Arsenal have been chasing ahead of the new Premier League season.
