Sky pundit brands Arsenal transfer business ‘an absolute joke’

Former Arsenal star Charlie Nicholas has branded the club’s transfer policy “an absolute joke” and urged them to sign defenders.

The Gunners have confirmed the signing of Dennis Suarez, who has arrived on loan from Barcelona with a view to a permanent move.

Arsenal have not been in a position to buy players during this month’s transfer window so have been looking at loans.

And they have not been looking to add to their defensive options, despite many believing the back line needs to be a priority.

Pundit Nicholas, speaking on Sky Sports News, insisted the club have got it badly wrong since David Dein’s departure.

“I’m happy with anybody now to be honest because this Arsenal transfer philosophy is an absolute joke,” Nicholas said of the deal to bring in midfielder Suarez.

“It really is a joke and has been ever since David Dein left the building.

“I’m confused because we all need defenders and they are hard to get. Liverpool spent £60m to £70m getting one of the best you can get, and we can’t seem to identify one. We’re the ninth richest club and we can only get loan deals.

“I don’t care if the manager likes this player or not, please Arsenal, get some defenders in!”
